We have expert betting tips for AFL Round 16, which kicks off on Thursday with Brisbane vs Western Bulldogs.
AFL action continues with an excellent selection of games this week, including the Suns vs Magpies and Dockers vs Power.

7:20pm Brisbane Lions vs Western Bulldogs @ Gabba
The Brisbane Lions didn’t fire a shot against the Melbourne Demons last week but they should appreciate the easier opposition.
Despite the Bulldogs scoring a 125-83 win over the Hawks last week, they haven’t shown enough consistency to warrant backing them at $2.74.
We expect the Lions, who are a classy team, to bounce back and cover the –13.5 spread.
Betting tip: Brisbane Lions –13.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Lions by 20
7:50pm Carlton Blues vs St Kilda Saints @ Marvel Stadium
The Blues showed their premiership credentials when beating Fremantle last week and we expect that form to stack up nicely against St Kilda.
The 81-50 win over Fremantle was a tough effort, especially against a team we fancy to win the AFL premiership, so there is plenty of upside.
St Kilda is capable of producing an upset at $2.44 but we’re sticking with the Blues to score another victory.
Betting tip: Carlton Blues –9.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Blues by 14
1:45pm Essendon Bombers vs Sydney Swans @ MCG
We were impressed with what the Sydney Swans produced against the Saints last week and a repeat sees them beating Essendon.
The Swans scored an 83-32 victory at home, and although playing on the road here, the Bombers were handled by the Eagles last week, so that’s a poor form guide.
With only 19.5 points between them in betting markets, we’re going with the visitors to score another comfortable victory.
Betting tip: Sydney Swans –19.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Swans by 28
4:35pm Adelaide Crows vs Melbourne Demons @ Adelaide Oval
After a few weeks of not showing their best, the Melbourne Demons put on a clinic against the Brisbane Lions.
It was more of a defensive clinic, which limited the Lions to 53 points. Melbourne would have liked to have converted better than 16.21, but it was a good effort.
Covering a 35.5-point spread is never easy, but the Crows often give up big scores. Playing at home hasn’t done much for them so we’re going with Melbourne to score a big win.
Betting tip: Melbourne Demons –35.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Demons by 40
7:25pm Geelong Cats vs North Melbourne Kangaroos @ GMHBA Stadium
The Geelong Cats are always going to be too good for the North Melbourne Kangaroos, but they have a big line to cover.
Bookmakers have the Cats at –65.5, which is one of the bigger lines we have seen this season, but it’s not surprising given the Kangaroos record.
Geelong should have a field day of offence and we picture a 130-50 score line, which is enough to cover the mammoth spread comfortably.
Betting tip: Geelong Cats –65.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Cats by 80
7:25pm Gold Coast Suns vs Collingwood Magpies @ Metricon Stadium
The Gold Coast Suns were only narrowly beaten by the Port Adelaide Power last week. The 93-91 was a tough loss to stomach, but they covered the +16.5 spread easily.
They now face a tough Collingwood side, which comes off a win over the Giants. It wasn’t their best performance after going 11.22, but they could take their opportunities on Saturday.
Bookmakers have the Suns at $1.83 with home ground advantage and it could be enough to see them over the line.
Betting tip: Gold Coast Suns @ $1.83 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Suns by 10
2:10pm Richmond Tigers vs West Coast Eagles @ MCG
Despite beating Essendon last week, we can’t see the form of the West Coast Eagles lasting another week.
They should struggle to beat the Richmond Tigers, who are looking to rebound after losing to the Geelong Cats 89-86. It was a close game and they’ll be keen to let the floodgates open against the Eagles.
We’re predicting another one-sided result, so pick the Tigers to cover the spread.
Betting tip: Richmond Tigers –36.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Tigers by 42
3:20pm GWS Giants vs Hawthorn Hawks @ GIANTS Stadium
The Giants couldn’t find enough to beat the Magpies last week and they could be false favourites against the Hawks.
Hawthorn isn’t a top-level team by any means but the Hawks present punters with solid value at the $2.63 head-to-head price.
Backing the Giants at $1.50 is tough and we’re not giving them the clear edge, so take the Hawks with the +11.5 points to be safe.
Betting tip: Hawthorn Hawks +11.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Hawks by 3
5:20pm Fremantle Dockers vs Port Adelaide Power @ Optus Stadium
We considered last week’s loss to the Carlton Blues as a blip on the radar for the Fremantle Dockers, who we will like to win it all.
It was a disappointing loss but they can get back on the horse against the Port Adelaide Power and the 16.5-point line is favourable.
The Power don’t always travel well and the Dockers can take advantage of the situation.
Betting tip: Fremantle Dockers –16.5 @ $1.90 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Dockers by 23
