Melbourne City vs Western United – AAMI Park

Melbourne City ($1.76)

Western United ($4.90)

Draw ($3.9)

Both Melbourne City and Western United have justified their top 2 positions in the table by progressing to the A-League Grand Final. For City, going back to back in the A League would be gratification for all of the hard work they have put in over the past couple of seasons and they can lay claim to being the most successful side in the A-League currently. Western United meanwhile are breaking new ground here in reaching their maiden Grand Final and they will be looking to revel in their role of underdogs here.

It is the final the country has been waiting for as Premiership winners Melbourne City take on second placed Western United.

Melbourne City

It has been a period of success for Melbourne City, who have won the Premiership twice over the last two seasons, a prerequisite for being part of the City group franchise. The blues have been the front runners throughout this campaign, which was once again ravaged by COVID, and they have been able to deal with personnel changes and fixture rescheduling with ease. Their edgy win over Adelaide United in the semi-finals was typical of a side that is used to winning and playing in front of their home fans, should assist Melbourne City here.

Western United

Despite being one of the newest franchises in the A-League, Western United have belied their rookie status significantly this season and they have been in the mix all campaign. Having not finished in the top 2 previously, United are very much in unchartered territory and they will see this as a free hit, at Melbourne City’s home ground. Their huge aggregate win over Melbourne Victory in the semi-finals was a sign of the progress they have in recent weeks, and they do look equipped to go all the way and at least challenge Melbourne City here.
