2021 AFL Season Predictions & Betting Tips

Footy is here and we’re looking forward to another huge season of AFL action.

The Melbourne Demons are the current favourites to bring home the title again, but there is a stack of winning chances in AFL betting markets.

We look at premiership winner, top eight, least wins and our best picks for the Coleman Medal for top goal kicker.

All odds are with Sportsbet – our No. 1 rated bookmaker. You can join Sportsbet by clicking HERE.

2022 AFL Premiership Winner – Melbourne Demons

It’s never easy to go back-to-back, but the Melbourne Demons are well-placed to make another run.

They were completely dominant when beating the Western Bulldogs in the final last season, scoring a 140-66 win.

That win should give them a great deal of confidence heading into the 2022 season and there’s no real reason to jump off their backs.

They have a roster good enough to produce the goods for two years, especially with the likes of Max Gawn, Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

Bookmakers have Melbourne at $4.33, which is a fair price. The Demons could go from strength-to-strength and we’re happy to take the value available.

Bet: Melbourne Demons @ $4.33 – Bet @ Sportsbet

2022 AFL Premiership Winner Value Bet – Brisbane Lions

We like the Brisbane Lions to win last year, and although they didn’t come up with the goods, it was a positive season.

They should improve with the experience under their belt and having the likes of Charlie Cameron, Joe Daniher and Lachie Neale in the squad helps.

Brisbane is on the third line of betting at $7.50 and that’s a value price. We expect the Lions to be minor premiership contenders and their odds should firm considerably throughout the year.

Punters should jump all over the odds while they last and be confident in a team that could go all the way.

Bet: Brisbane Lions @ $7.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

2022 AFL Premiership Long Shot – Sydney Swans

Backing the Sydney Swans to win the premiership can be tough on the heart, but the Swans are worth a bet.

They’re never too far away from producing a huge season and they have everything they need to make a deep playoff run.

We don’t think they deserve to be paying $13 and we would rate their chances better the likes of Richmond ($11) and Port Adelaide ($10).

Put the Swans on your ticket and ride the value.

Bet: Sydney Swans @ $13 – Bet @ Sportsbet

2022 AFL Least Wins – North Melbourne Kangaroos

We went with the North Melbourne Kangaroos last year and we’re sticking with them.

Despite showing some signs of improvement, the Kangaroos were mostly awful last season and we don’t think much has changed this time around.

Gold Coast is the current $3.50 favourite for the wooden spoon, but the Kangaroos are hot on their heels at $3.75, which is a value price.

There isn’t much to get excited about in Kangaroo land, so we’re confident they’ll struggle to notch up wins.

Bet: North Melbourne Kangaroos @ $3.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

2022 AFL Coleman Medal Winner – Jeremy Cameron

Harry McKay is the favourite to kick the most goals, but we’re having a nibble on Jeremy Cameron.

The Geelong Cats player should have plenty of opportunities to kick goals and get back to the form which saw him kick 76 goals for Greater Western Sydney in 2019.

He kicked only 30 goals for the Cats last year, but he should be given more chances to have a big season. He’s classy at best and he’s on the second line of betting for a reason.

Bookmakers have him at $6 and that’s a price worth taking.

Bet: Jeremy Cameron @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet

2022 AFL Brownlow Medal Winner – Darcy Parish

Darcy Parish went to another level last season when he was given more time in the Essendon midfield where he proved himself as an absolute ball magnet.

Parish has no trouble winning his own ball, is an aggressive tackler and can even make an impact on the scoreboard and that should earn plenty of attention from the umpires.

He will start there from round 1 this season and that should put him in an excellent position to poll more votes and put him closer to a top 3 finish in the 2022 Brownlow Medal.

Bookmakers have him at $13 and that’s a price worth taking for the durable Essendon midfielder.

Bet: Darcy Parish @ $13 – Bet @ Sportsbet

To Make the Top 8 – Essendon Bombers

It’s always a roller coaster ride for the Essendon Bombers, but we’re backing them in to make the top eight.

There is enough talent in the team to make a solid run in 2022, so we’re surprised by the odds available with the sportsbook.

The Bombers are currently paying $2.25 to make the playoffs and we see plenty of improvement in them, so they could even push for a top six spot.

Bet: Essendon Bombers @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet
