Thursday 24/03/22

7:20pm Western Bulldogs vs Carlton Blues @ Marvel Stadium

It wasn’t a bad start for the Western Bulldogs, who were beaten 97-71 in the Grand Final rematch to open their account.

They played well enough to put themselves in contention, but defence wasn’t great and Carlton could exploit that again.

The Blues won 101-76 against the Richmond Tigers, which was their best performance for some time. That momentum could continue in Round Two.

Betting tip: Carlton Blues @ $2.26 – Bet @ Sportsbet

7:50pm Sydney Swans vs Geelong Cats @ SCG

We were confident of the Sydney Swans winning in the opening week and they got the job done against the Giants.

The 112-92 performance was a professional outing, but beating the rampant Geelong Cats could be easier said than done.

Geelong was impressive against Essendon, but the Swans are in a better position to start perfect at 2-0, so we’re backing them in.

Betting tip: Sydney Swans @ $1.64 – Bet @ Sportsbet

1:45pm Collingwood Magpies vs Adelaide Crows @ MCG

The Collingwood Magpies got their season off to a winning start over St Kilda and that holds them in good stead against the Crows.

Adelaide suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to Fremantle, so it will need to rebound from that disappointment.

We expect the Magpies to be too strong for the visitors and we don’t want to bet on the Crows away from home.

Betting tip: Collingwood Magpies –13.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

4:35pm Essendon Bombers vs Brisbane Lions @ Marvel Stadium

We expected more from the Essendon Bombers last week and we were disappointed with the 138-72 performance against Geelong.

They’ll need to improve significantly to hold off the Brisbane Lions, who were solid on defence against the Port Adelaide Power.

There is value with the Lions at the current line, so take it before it moves.

Betting tip: Brisbane Lions –12.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

7:40pm Port Adelaide Power vs Hawthorn Hawks @ Adelaide Oval

Despite coming off a 78-58 win over the North Melbourne Kangaroos, the Hawthorn Hawks are distinct underdogs against Port Adelaide.

The Power couldn’t muster much against the Brisbane Lions on the road, but playing at Adelaide Oval has always helped the Power.

The Hawks were good in the opening week, but the Power loves piling on the points in this situation. Take them to cover the 28.5 spread.

Betting tip: Port Adelaide Power –28.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

8:00pm Gold Coast Suns vs Melbourne Demons @ Metricon Stadium

The Melbourne Demons look well-placed to score another win after dispatching the Western Bulldogs in the opening round.

They were rock-solid in all areas of the game and that could spell bad news for the Gold Coast Suns, who were solid when beating the West Coast Eagles.

Despite the win, bookmakers have 30.5 points between them and we think the Suns are good enough to keep it close.

Betting tip: Gold Coast Suns +30.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

1:10pm North Melbourne Kangaroos vs West Coast Eagles @ Marvel Stadium

Expectations were too high for the North Melbourne Kangaroos last week and they played accordingly. However, they could turn it around against the Eagles.

West Coast showed little when losing 107-80 to the Gold Coast Suns, which shouldn’t be a good form guide over the coming weeks.

Money has come early for the Kangaroos and it could be worth following.

Betting tip: North Melbourne Kangaroos @ $1.71 – Bet @ Sportsbet

3:20pm Richmond Tigers vs GWS Giants @ MCG

More was expected of the Richmond Tigers against Carlton last week, but they get a chance to redeem themselves.

The Giants didn’t show enough against the Swans to suggest that they could handle the Tigers, who are eager to bounce back.

There is some trepidation in betting markets with the Tigers, but at –4.5, it’s a value early line.

Betting tip: Richmond Tigers –4.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

6:20pm Fremantle Dockers vs St Kilda Saints @ Optus Stadium

The Fremantle Dockers escaped with a one-point win over Adelaide, but they’ll need to kick better to continue winning.

Scoring 11.17 isn’t going to cut it against teams like the St Kilda Saints, but we expect them to improve enough to secure the victory.

Punters get $1.66 for Freo and that’s a good enough line to include them in selections.

Betting tip: Fremantle Dockers @ $1.66 – Bet @ Sportsbet
