All-Star Mile Form Guide & Tips
1. I’m Thunderstruck (Best Bet – $6.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
I’m Thunderstruck comes off two tidy efforts and he now gets his ideal distance and conditions.
The Golden Eagle winner won his only start at Flemington and the long straight is ideal for him to fully wind up.
He’ll drop back from the draw and storm home late at each-way odds.
2. Zaaki ($3.30) Bet @ Sportsbet
Zaaki had his chance to beat Inspirational Girl fresh up but he should be improved with the run.
He is a two-time winner second-up, but drawing barrier 15 could make it tricky in the early stages.
Jamie Kah is riding well and the favourite isn’t being left out.
3. Cascadian (Best Roughie – $21) Bet @ Sportsbet
We put Cascadian in our selections as he could settle out the pace and come with his customary late burst.
There should be solid pace in the race and he got back to winning form two back. Include at the nice odds with Damien Oliver riding.
4. Streets of Avalon ($101) Bet @ Sportsbet
Big odds available and rightfully so. He looks outclassed at this stage of his career.
5. Lunar Fox ($91) Bet @ Sportsbet
He is good enough to score an upset win, but we’re not sure he deserves to be racing for the big money.
Won his Group 1 paying $301, so he can’t be completely ruled out because of the odds.
6. King Magnus ($91) Bet @ Sportsbet
Not up to this level of racing, so he clearly has a big fan base. Likely to struggle to keep up, hence the big odds.
7. Callsign Mav ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
The former Kiwi ran well fresh up in Australia before finishing eighth last time out.
He’s good enough to settle on the pace and kick well, but he might be run over late by the fast finishers.
8. Mr Brightside ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet
Mr Brightside is draws an inside barrier and he should get every chance in the run to show his best.
He’s a five-time winner at the distance and we wouldn’t rule him out of first-four calculations. Having Craig Williams in the saddle is ideal.
9. Icebath ($23) Bet @ Sportsbet
Icebath is tough to follow at the best of times and she’s too inconsistent to include in our selections.
Racing on a good track helps and she just needs to race up to her best to figure in the finish.
10. Tofane ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet
Won the C.F. Orr Stakes fresh up before battling for third behind Sierra Sue last time out.
That’s top-level form and runners from the Mike Moroney stable have hit top gear, so she could hit back.
11. Sierra Sue ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet
Punters get value odds for a runner coming off a Group 1 win against many runners in this field.
She doesn’t always string wins together, but she’s far too good to rule out, especially at the price.
Include Sierra Sue in multiples.
12. Inspirational Girl ($6) Bet @ Sportsbet
She had to sprint late to peg back Zaaki and she did it in style. It was another strong second-up win, so she demands attention.
Getting barrier four is ideal and she’s another strong each-way contender.
13. Captivant ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
Captivant hasn’t come on this preparation and we’re prepared to leave the colt out of selections.
He won’t find it easy from the draw either.
14. Lightsaber ($16) Bet @ Sportsbet
Lightsaber has been expensive for punters at times, but he comes off a tidy finish behind Derby winner Hitotsu.
We’re not sure if that’s the best form for this race and he’s not well-weighted.
15. Pinstriped (Best Each Way – $7) Bet @ Sportsbet
Pinstriped finished fifth behind Hitotsu in the same race, but he was desperately unlucky not to run straight past them.
He got blocked for a run when cruising, so we’re giving him another chance and he hasn’t been missed in betting markets.
