Australian Cup Form Guide & Tips

1. Cascadian ($8) Bet @ Sportsbet

Cascadian scored a long overdue win last start but we don’t he’s good enough to repeat it at this level.

He has yet to win in four attempts at Flemington and he needs everything to go his way and we don’t think it will here.

2. Think It Over ($3) Bet @ Sportsbet

Think It Over deserves to be favourite after producing another tough effort behind Verry Elleegant.

He hasn’t gone on top of our selections because of his lack of experience at Flemington and running the other way around isn’t easy.

$3 is a touch too short, but he’s an obvious trifecta player.

3. Spanish Mission (Best Each Way – $4.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Some connections said they’d give up if Spanish Mission didn’t run well on Saturday, so there is confidence in the camp.

He comes off a third placing behind Earlswood and he was always going to need the run. His best form blows them away here and punters get each-way odds.

4. Ho Ho Khan ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

The Tasmanian would need to improve to keep up with this field. He has been specked at big odds, but we can’t have him.

5. Steel Prince ($61) Bet @ Sportsbet

He’s a two-time winner at Flemington and he wasn’t far behind fresh up, but he might need a few more runs.

Wait for something over slightly longer distances.

6. Surprise Baby ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

In a similar boat as Steel Prince, but he has had the extra run. Finished off well enough last time out and another nice run could come.

Watch for him on a more suitable track.

7. Yonkers ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet

Yonkers showed his versatility when pushing Cascadian close last start and it bodes well for his future.

We’re not sure if he’s up to beating this quality of field over 2000m, but look for him to feature over 2400m and beyond.

8. Callsign Mav ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet

The former Kiwi showed his toughness when running second fresh up and he’s an on-pace runner who is tough to run down.

Expect him to push forward and be in the thick of the action until the final 100m. He’s still a first four chance.

9. Delphi (Best Roughie – $19) Bet @ Sportsbet

Delphi didn’t lose any admirers when running fourth fresh up and we thought he would need the run.

He’s a quality type on his day and punters get lovely odds on Saturday, so we’re putting him in the mix.

10. Maximal ($18) Bet @ Sportsbet

Connections are patiently waiting for him to run a good race, but we haven’t seen enough from him to warrant attention.

Having Hugh Bowman riding is a plus, but we’re not enticed by the odds.

11. She’s Ideel ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet

That was a huge performance to finish second behind Verry Elleegant, but she will need to reproduce that effort to win.

We’re including her in first four selections based on that run and she’s also a three-time winner over 2000m.

The $11 is a fair price for her level of talent.

12. Duais (Best Bet – $8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

We loved the run of Duais last time out and she was desperately unlucky not to win when getting blocked for a run.

She was storming home better than Verry Elleegant and She’s Ideel, so a repeat effort sees her winning this race.

We expect her odds to firm throughout the week, so take the $8.50 as it’s a generous quote.
