Australian Oaks Form Guide & Tips

1. Hinged (Best Bet – $4.40) Bet @ Neds

Hinged was beaten by Fangirl at Newcastle last start but she lost no admirers with the effort.

She is a classy type and we think she can rebound with a better run in transit. She likes Randwick and rising to 2400m holds no fears.

Take the $4.40 available.

2. Gypsy Goddess (Best Each Way – $4.40) Bet @ Neds

We liked the way she finished off behind Fangirl and she could bridge the gap between her and Hinged.

It followed consistent form and getting to a bigger track at Randwick should only help her chances of winning the Australian Oaks.

3. Biscayne Bay ($14) Bet @ Neds

Her form hasn’t been good enough to enter calculations. Bookmakers are keeping her safe at $14, but we’re prepared to risk her at the price.

4. Honeycreeper ($4.20) Bet @ Neds

Honeycreeper won by 3.3 lengths at Randwick last start and she relished the heavy conditions, which is a good sign.

She’s the current favourite and although she’s not our top pick, she can’t be left out of trifecta and first four calculations.

5. Le Villi ($17) Bet @ Neds

Le Villi was good enough to score back-to-back wins earlier this preparation and the Kiwi runners should always be respected.

She ran a good time in the New Zealand Oaks when running sixth and she’ll handle the wet conditions, so include in first four bets.

6. El Patroness ($19) Bet @ Neds

We’re not sure if Melbourne form is best for the Australian Oaks on this occasion and she didn’t let down last time out.

We would entertain her chances at bigger odds, but there’s no value with the $19.

7. Hope in Your Heart ($41) Bet @ Neds

Drawing barrier 17 hurts her chances and her form is going well enough to consider.

8. Gin Martini ($51) Bet @ Neds

Punters can never rule out a John Sargent-trained filly, but we didn’t see enough at Newcastle to warrant inclusion.

She handles wet tracks on occasion but that’s where the positivity ends.

9. Pink Ivory ($6.50) Bet @ Neds

Pink Ivory hit the line nicely at Newcastle and she’s another Sargent-trained runner. She is the better chance of the two and having James McDonald riding helps.

The daughter of Redwood is bred for the Oaks and we wouldn’t be leaving her out.

10. Charity Spirit (Best Roughie – $41) Bet @ Neds

Finished second behind Honeycreeper is a good form guide and punters get excellent odds for Charity Spirit.

She is in good hands and the Portelli stable is going well. Can’t be left out at the price.

11. Hardly Sweet ($34) Bet @ Neds

She is a two-time winner from her last four starts and she has been heavily backed after opening at $51.

Her odds are now into $34, so if you can squeeze another runner into multiples, she could be the one.

12. Lekvarte ($101) Bet @ Neds

Her form isn’t anywhere close to being good enough to win the Australian Oaks. We would be surprised if she looked the winner at any stage.

13. Secret Glamour ($51) Bet @ Neds

Didn’t fire at Randwick last start and it’s tough to see that form being turned around. Her odds could drift on race day.

14. Commando Drift ($101) Bet @ Neds

We haven’t seen enough from Command Drift to warrant including. She broke maidens two back at Sale and that form would need to improve.

15. Velvet Lady ($91) Bet @ Neds

She is shooting for three consecutive wins but form out of Scone isn’t liking to stack up. Look for her in something much easier.

16. Mauricently ($61) Bet @ Neds

She gets the inside draw but her form needs to improve. She was 7.4 lengths behind Honeycreeper last start and we don’t think she has that much improvement in store.

17. Chance Reward ($201) Bet @ Neds

A last-start winner at Canberra but is very little chance of winning.

18. Youthfully ($201) Bet @ Neds

Fair to rule a line through her chances based on her disappointing form.
