- Markus Aurelius
BCD Group Sprint Form Guide & Tips
1. Mascarpone (Best Each Way – $9) Bet @ Sportsbet
The five-year-old showed his ability when winning fresh up at Te Rapa and he loves racing on the track.
He followed up the win with four consecutive placings and he was only 2.4 lengths behind Levante last start, which is an excellent form guide.
Punters shouldn’t overlook the odds.
2. Packing Rockstar ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet
The ability is there but we’re unsure if he’s up to this level. His win three back was tidy and the son of Fastnet Rock owns four wins over 1200.
However, the odds tell the full story and he could struggle to keep up with the torrid pace.
3. Gino Severini ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet
With only one placing from five starts at the track, we can’t have Gino Severini in the mix.
The eight-year-old could be past his best and he would need to find a few lengths just to keep up with them.
Bookmakers have sizable odds available and it’s not surprising.
4. Markus Aurelius ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet
Ruling out a Te Akau runner isn’t easy, but Markus Aurelius was 6.9 lengths behind an easier field at Ellerslie last start.
He is unbeaten at the track and he owns three wins at the distance, but rising to Group 1 level is a different kettle of fish.
Watch for any late market moves.
5. Monaco ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet
Monaco is having his 55th start and he’s not getting any quicker. His best form comes on wet tracks and he might get some race day rain, but his chances of winning are slim.
6. Entriviere ($2.10) Bet @ Sportsbet
The race favourite and biggest danger to Levante. The five-year-old star mare has yet to race at Te Rapa, which is a slight concern.
However, her win two back was classy and she didn’t handle Trentham last start. Going left-handed is the worry but class takes her close.
7. Levante (Best Bet – $2.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Levante showed her class when scoring by a nose last start and she got her deserved Group 1.
The Kelso-trained mare owns a win at Te Rapa, and with three wins over the distance, she is the standout runner.
Picking the jump is important as she can’t give them a head start, but we’re prepared to take the risk.
8. Showoroses (Best Roughie – $13) Bet @ Sportsbet
The daughter of Showcasing defeated a nice field three back at Te Rapa and she owns two wins on the track.
Her recent form hasn’t been as good, but if she gets a soft run in front, she could kick clear and run close.
She is worth including at the price.
