2022 F1 Season – Predictions & Betting Odds

With the dust just about settling from the most incredible end to a F1 season in recent memory in 2021, attention now turns to how the key runners and riders will fare in 2022. Max Verstappen controversially clinched his maiden F1 world title last season, pinching it from under the nose of Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the campaign and both men will be out to prove a point once more this term.

Hamilton is chasing history, as he sits patiently on seven world titles – needing one more to break the all-time record, whilst Verstappen is hoping to build a dynasty with Red Bull for the foreseeable future. Pre-season testing in Barcelona earlier this month suggested that there are plenty of cars that could cause some damage this season too, with McLaren and Ferrari impressing and with 22 races in a packed out calendar, it promises to be yet another enthralling season of Formula 1 action.

Here are our Formula 1 tips for the 2022 season:

2022 Formula 1 Championship Winner

Lewis Hamilton – $2.5 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Lewis Hamilton has been the dominant force in Formula 1 for the best part of a decade, but he had his wings clipped somewhat last season. The controversial ruling that saw Hamilton lose his grip on the title last term has seen former F1 race director Michael Masi lose his job and whilst the fallout from last season continues, Hamilton will be out to set the record straight this term. His 7 world title wins sees him stand with Michael Schumacher at the top of the all-time list of title wins and he will believe that he and Mercedes have a genuine chance of history this season. He will be partnered by fellow Brit George Russell for Mercedes this term, a partnership that looks to have the makings of a successful one.

Max Verstappen – $4.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Dutchman Max Verstappen fulfilled a lifelong dream in clinching the F1 title last season and he will now be the man to catch this term. He has long been earmarked by Red Bull top brass for greatness and he proved his worth, holding his nerve in a rollercoaster of a campaign that went all the way down to the last lap of the season. Despite the controversial nature of his title win, Verstappen proved plenty of doubters wrong last term, maximising his quick Red Bull car and he is sure to be in the mix again this term.

George Russell – $7.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Mercedes have a habit of churning out the next big name in Formula 1 racing and in George Russell, they looked to have plucked another gem. The former Williams driver has impressed hugely over the past couple of seasons, demonstrating driving skill and speed, in a car that simply didn’t have the fire power of its grid rivals. Teaming up with Lewis Hamilton is sure to do plenty for Russell’s development and whilst Hamilton will be the top dog for Mercedes at the start of the season, if Russell can put results on the board, he could sneak under the radar somewhat in the title race.

Charles Leclerc – $7.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ferrari have endured a few barren seasons on the Formula 1 circuit, but Charles Leclerc has been a lone bright light in recent campaigns. Having had to work hard to make the number one seat in the team his own, Leclerc is now the undisputed number one at the Italian giants, and he will be hoping to spearhead their championship attempts this season. With an impressive pre-season testing event in Barcelona under their belts, Ferrari will be hopeful Charles Leclerc is involved in the title race this term.

2022 Formual 1 Constructors Championship Winner

Whilst the individual honours went to Verstappen and Red Bull last season, it was Mercedes who claimed the constructors championship, thanks to the consistency of Lewis Hamilton and his team mate Valtteri Bottas.

Each season presents a new opportunity for teams to get into the mix in the constructors championship and in 2022, it looks to be a closer run event than in many a recent season:

Mercedes – $1.75 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Having Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in their roster naturally makes Mercedes the favourite to clinch the Constructors Championship once again in 2022. Pre-season testing in Barcelona earlier this month was inconclusive in how much it revealed about the car Mercedes have this season, but they are a side packed with engineering and driving expertise, making them the side to beat once again this term.

Red Bull – $4.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Christian Horner and Red Bull were ecstatic to end up with a Drivers Championship gong last term, but they will see a Constructors Championship as the ultimate gratification for their efforts if they were able to get over the line this season. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez make up their stellar line up this season once again and with the pair dovetailing so well last season, they perhaps look a bit overpriced with a super-fast car in the garage too.

Ferrari – $4.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ferrari last clinched a Constructors Championship trophy in 2008 and how they would love to bring their long wait to an end this season. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr will spearhead the team once again in 2022 and their partnership showed glimpses of its promise last season. The speed demonstrated by the car in pre-season testing in March is a huge cause for optimism for all associated with Ferrari and they could be in the mix for the Constructors Championship this season.

McLaren – $13.00 – Bet @ Sportsbet

When it comes to Constructors Championship trophy droughts, McLaren take the biscuit – having last won the title back in 1998. There is a real feel-good factor around the team currently though, with Daniel Riccardo tutoring young English talent Lando Norris through the trials and tribulations of top level F1 driving. They enjoyed some superb results this season and have undoubted power in their car, the key question is whether they can sustain their performances over the course of the season to keep up with the likes of Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari.
