Oakleigh Plate Form Guide & Tips

1. Wild Ruler (Best Each Way – $8) Bet @ Sportsbet

Wild Ruler is a noted fresh up performer with five starts for three wins and two second placings.

He is a son of Snitzel who has yet to run at Caulfield, but he comes off two trial wins in Sydney and he could hit the ground running.

Lovely odds for a professional type.

2. Zoutori ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet

He is another fresh up performer with four wins from nine starts, but we don’t think he’s running well enough to test them.

He struggled to keep up at Flemington last start behind Superstorm, so he would need to find a few lengths to keep up with this level of opposition.

3. Jonker ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet

Jonker got back to his best form with a win at Moonee Valley in October when holding off Bella Nipotina.

It’s his first start at Caulfield which is a concern, so we’re prepared to leave him out of selections.

4. Bella Nipotina (Best Roughie – $12) Bet @ Sportsbet

Our best roughie loves running at Caulfield with three wins from eight starts and she also runs best over this distance.

She finished third behind Nature Strip last start and there’s nothing wrong with that form, so the $12 is a value price.

5. Marabi (Best Bet – $2.70) Bet @ Sportsbet

Marabi is unbeaten after six starts, and although yet to face Group 1-level opposition, she is an exciting type.

She won by 2.8 lengths at Moonee Valley last start and she defeated Away Game by just under a length at her only Caulfield start.

This will be her biggest test, but with 54kg on her back, she gets an ideal chance to secure a Group 1 victory.

6. Oxley Road ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet

Oxley Road didn’t lose any admirers when running second behind Marine One at Caulfield last start.

The four-year-old son of Exceed and Excel owns two wins and two placings at Caulfield, so he goes in the mix as a trifecta chance, especially at the odds.

7. Away Game ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet

Away Game is a classy mare but we’re concerned about the lack of recent wins. She flashed home late behind Marabi two back before running third at Gold Coast.

Her form is good enough to win the Oakleigh Plate and she gets in with 52kg. Include her in calculations.

8. Malkovich ($18) Bet @ Sportsbet

Malkovich is never too far away from the prize with six wins and seven placings from 17 starts. However, we’re unsure if he’s a Group 1 type.

The four-year-old son of Choisir finished fifth in a much easier race at Randwick last start and he’ll need to find a few lengths to win.

9. Minhaaj ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Minhaaj is shooting for her third consecutive win after scoring at Randwick and last time out at Flemington.

The win at Flemington rates highly and three of her five wins have come fresh up, so she hits the ground running and she’s dangerous.

Getting the inside draw is ideal and she can’t be left out.

10. Poland ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet

Bookmakers should have Poland at longer odds because it would be a huge upset. He isn’t running well enough and they’ll outsprint him.

11. Streetcar Stranger ($34) Bet @ Sportsbet

He got the better of a four-horse field at Caulfield last time out, but there is much more depth to this contest.

He’s a six-time winner from 18 starts but we’d prefer to see him in something much easier.

12. Ingratiating ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet

Not a bad type on his day, and although his three-year-old form hasn’t been stellar, the talent is there.

The tempo didn’t suit his chances last start and we’re prepared to include him in first four selections.

13. General Beau ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet

Carrying 50kg is ideal for the age-group runner who owns three wins at Caulfield.

He is a smart colt who is being thrown into the deep end, but he’s a chance of winning at the weights.

Watch for any late betting moves.
