Queensland Derby Form Guide & Tips
—
1. Tutukaka ($19) Bet @ Neds
The Kiwi hasn’t been at his consistent best lately but he still has plenty of ability. His run for second two back is a solid betting guide.
He could provide punters with good value.
2. Dark Destroyer (Best Bet – $4.40) Bet @ Neds
Another Kiwi runner with excellent winning claims. He showed his toughness when scoring last start and we’re loving the odds available.
The Kiwis love the conditions and he won’t have to do much work off the inside draw.
3. Caboche ($9.50) Bet @ Neds
Odds are a little too short for our liking as he should have been beating that field at Scone last time out.
James McDonald rides and that’s a positive, so he could sneak into first four calculations.
4. Menazzi ($16) Bet @ Neds
A past winner on the track and it wasn’t far away when third at Eagle Farm last start.
No easier here and he has four lengths to make up on Dark Destroyer, so we’re prepared to leave him out.
5. Pinarello (Best Each Way – $7.50) Bet @ Neds
He has been given the visitors draw but the Kiwi is likely to settle back and warm into the race late.
He’s a classy type with three wins from six starts and we love the way he bounded up to them at Pukekohe last start.
Pinarello is good enough to win and the odds appeal.
6. Red Wave ($61) Bet @ Neds
Not consistent enough to warrant attention and the odds reflect as much. He would need to lift to beat this field.
7. Southern Stock ($16) Bet @ Neds
A two-time winner already this campaign and there is solid enough betting support.
It could pay to watch for late betting moves on race day, but he’s not being included in our betting selections.
8. Balmaurice ($101) Bet @ Neds
His form this preparation has been poor and we can’t see him turning that form around in the Queensland Derby.
9. Sea Treasures ($20) Bet @ Neds
He has shown some ability this season but we don’t think he’s running well enough to be competitive in this company.
The $20 is too short for our liking and he’s not included in our selections.
10. Ting Tong ($15) Bet @ Neds
Ting Tong comes off a second placing last week at Rosehill and that form could show up at this level.
The winner looks like a smart type and we could see that form being good enough to be competitive in the Queensland Derby.
11. Satirical Glory ($46) Bet @ Neds
We liked the win two back but were disappointed last time out. He needs to improve and this isn’t the race to do it.
12. Paternal ($6) Bet @ Neds
Strong betting support for Paternal, who finished second behind Dark Destroyer last start.
The Waller-trained gelding demands attention based on that effort and we wouldn’t be leaving him out of trifecta and first-four calculations.
13. Dark Rebel ($101) Bet @ Neds
Triple figure odds available for a runner without much of a winning chance.
14. Global Ausbred ($16) Bet @ Neds
He owns three wins from his last four starts and he has been handling wet tracks.
Global Ausbred scored by two lengths last start and he could be worth including in selections.
15. Impel Gazelle ($61) Bet @ Neds
He started his career with three consecutive wins before running fifth behind Dark Destroyer.
He has some lengths to make up, so he can’t put him in the mix.
16. Anythink Goes ($31) Bet @ Neds
Second behind Global Ausbred last start but he was two lengths behind, so he needs to make that up and more.
Barrier four helps but there are stronger winning hopes.
17. Nest Egg ($61) Bet @ Neds
The former Kiwi has struggled since arriving in Australia and we can’t see his form improving any time soon.
18. Villaden (Best Roughie – $21) Bet @ Neds
Fourth at Flemington last start and the Waller-trained gelding could have plenty of upside.
He gets a Group 1-winning jockey in the saddle and punters get odds worth snapping up, so put him in the mix.
19. Turn Me Over ($71) Bet @ Neds
Solid form but unlikely to be good enough at the top level.
20. Velvet Lady ($81) Bet @ Neds
Gets in well on the weights but is unlikely to figure in the finish.
21. Kipling’s Journey ($201) Bet @ Neds
Shouldn’t be getting a spot in the field.
