Friday 4/03/22

5:05pm Moana Pasifika vs Crusaders @ Forsyth Barr Stadium

There is a reason why the Crusaders are favourites to win the title and they showed it when beating the Highlanders 34-19.

They haven’t even hit top gear yet, which is a scary thought, especially for the Pasifika, who are making their Super Rugby debut.

It was a tough pre-season for the Island-based team, so they could be in for an old-fashioned hiding on Friday. Bookmakers have the margin at 38.5 points, which could be the difference at halftime.

7:45pm Fijian Drua vs Rebels @ Sunshine Coast Stadium

The Rebels have scored eight points from their last two games against the Force and Reds, but they’re meeting a team there for the taking.

The Fijian Drua were hammered 42-3 by the Brumbies last week and 40-10 by the Waratahs in the opening round, so we expect the Rebels to hit top gear.

Laying 12.5 points on a team that has yet to score 12 points is tough, but if they can’t put up a big number on the Drua, there is no hope for the Rebels this season.

Betting tip: Rebels –12.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

10:00pm Force vs Reds @ NIB Stadium

Bookmakers have only 2.5 points between the Force and Reds, which is surprising given the success the Reds have had over the last two years.

However, they are giving credit to the Force for beating the Rebels 28-3 last week and pushing the Brumbies close in the opening round.

The Reds scored an easy win over the Rebels before narrowly beating the Waratahs 20-16. It was an off week for the Reds, but we see them bouncing back despite being on the road.

Take the Reds at a value price.

2:35pm Blues vs Chiefs @ Eden Park

We felt a little sick of punters who backed the Blues to beat the Hurricanes last week.

Despite leading by three tries with under 10 minutes to go, the Blues couldn’t hold on after allowing two tries in the final two minutes.

It was a tough watch for fans and bouncing back against the Chiefs won’t be easy. We saw some concerning signs late in the piece for the Blues, but it was their first game of the season.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck started strongly, but missed some crucial tackles late. The rugby boys are bigger than what he’s used to, so look for the Chiefs to pick him out.

There is value with the Chiefs at the $2.65 price, so include them in your selections.

Betting tip: Chiefs @ $2.65 – Bet @ Sportsbet

5:05pm Hurricanes vs Highlanders @ Wellington Regional Stadium

It was an incredible come from behind win from the Hurricanes last week and that will give them momentum.

They had no right to beat the Blues, but they’re never-say-die attitude was once again on display. It was great to see and it’s why they’re favoured to beat the Highlanders.

The Highlanders haven’t been overly impressive to start their season, so they’ll be desperate, but they should be outclassed on the road.

Betting tip: Hurricanes –6.5 @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

7:45pm Brumbies vs Waratahs @ GIO Stadium

The Waratahs have been better than we expected to start the season, so they could give the Brumbies a run for their money.

We have been impressed with the Brumbies as well, who defeated the Force and the Drua comfortably in the opening rounds.

They have looked like the best Australian side, which will be put to the test on Saturday. However, take them to win the game outright and boost Super Rugby multi bet payouts.

Betting tip: Brumbies @ $1.26 – Bet @ Sportsbet
