Surround Stakes Trifecta Tips
Punters should have five runners on their ticket for the Surround Stakes trifecta.
Surround Stakes First-Four Tips
We have included six runners for our Surround Stakes first-four.
Surround Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Yearning ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet
Yearning is a nice filly but she’ll be looking for longer distances and using this as a fitness run.
That is reflected in betting markets, so we can’t include her in selections.
2. Never Been Kissed ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
She looked the goods during her first campaign when winning the Flight Stakes over the mile.
Much harder here given the depth of this field, so look for a better betting opportunity later this season.
3. Fangirl (Best Each Way – $4.60) Bet @ Sportsbet
The Chris Waller-trained filly had the better run than Espiona last start, but she still ran her down in the straight.
Drawing barrier 16 will see her drift back, but Hugh Bowman rides and she demands attention. We’re expecting the Waller-trained runners to quinella the race again.
4. Four Moves Ahead ($23) Bet @ Sportsbet
Took on some hot age-group races last season, but she didn’t show enough fresh up to warrant attention.
The blinkers come off but she needs a lot of luck from the wide barrier.
5. Hinged ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
She enjoys wet tracks with four starts for three wins and a second placing. That form has come in easier grades, so it might not stack up well.
Getting the inside draw on a wet track probably isn’t the best place to be.
6. Jamaea ($12) Bet @ Sportsbet
We’re not sure how she’ll handle the heavy track but there was a lot to like about her recent placing.
She flashed home to finish third behind Fangirl and Espiona, in what should be the best form guide for the Surround Stakes.
Include Jamaea in multiples.
7. Espiona (Best Bet – $2.15) Bet @ Sportsbet
Her odds are drifting with the rain around, but she’s unbeaten on soft tracks and she should handle the heavy.
Not everything went her way fresh up, but she went down fighting and that was good to see. She’s better than most in this field and McDonald takes the ride.
Anything above $2.15 would be a price worth snapping up.
8. Startantes ($23) Bet @ Sportsbet
The daughter of Star Turn has been solidly backed after opening at $26, so that’s a good sign.
She has yet to fire in two starts over this distance, which is our concern. We’re leaving her out of top selections, but she has ability and is a first-four hope.
9. Zouzarella (Best Roughie – $17) Bet @ Sportsbet
The Melbourne-based filly ran a close fourth against similar opposition last start and she looks ready to fire.
She is bred to handle the conditions and she won her only start on a rain-affected track, so the $17 is well worth taking.
We expect her odds to shorten on race day.
10. Heresy ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
Another runner who finished close behind Fangirl in the Light Fingers. It was a solid effort and she should derive benefit.
Barrier six is ideal and she could enter first four calculations.
11. Shihonka ($34) Bet @ Sportsbet
We like this filly by Capitalist but we’re unsure if she’s cut out for top-level racing.
She comes off a solid run at Gold Coast behind King of Sparta, but she would need to find a few lengths on that performance.
12. Sweet Ruby ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
She is shooting for three consecutive wins but we’d prefer to back her in something much easier.
The odds tell the story.
13. Tilianam ($101) Bet @ Sportsbet
The daughter of Savabeel hasn’t done much at her last two starts and we don’t see that form turning around.
She’ll likely try to push forward but she’ll be struggling in the straight.
14. Larkspur Run ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
Larkspur Run’s odds are drifting after opening at $26 and that’s not a good sign.
We don’t expect her to be figuring in the finish despite having two wins and three placings on rain-affected tracks.
15. Ringarosa ($61) Bet @ Sportsbet
She looked good winning fresh up at Kembla Grange but this is a massive rise in class. Wait for her to run in something easier.
16. Hope In Your Heart ($201) Bet @ Sportsbet
Big odds available and rightfully so. She shouldn’t be getting close to them.
17. Von Trapp ($81) Bet @ Sportsbet
Comes off a disappointing run and she won’t be good enough to win.
18. I’m Divine ($101) Bet @ Sportsbet
Unlikely to run, so it’s fair to dismiss her chances.
