William Reid Stakes Form Guide & Tips

1. Trekking ($27) Bet @ Neds

Trekking is a 10-time winner and he owns four placings at The Valley, but he could be past his best.

He showed little at Flemington, so he would need to find a few lengths on that effort.

2. Jonker ($20) Bet @ Neds

The six-year-old was left flat-footed at Caulfield last start and he needs to rediscover his best form to be competitive here.

$20 is a touch short but he did win a Group 1 here in the spring.

3. The Inferno ($14) Bet @ Neds

He hasn’t had much luck this campaign after nearly falling last time out. Ignore that run and he’s dynamic at best.

He owns nine wins from 14 starts and that’s often ignored with The Inferno, so he goes into the mix.

4. Kemalpasa ($17) Bet @ Neds

He comes off a win, but it was only at Morphettville and he has yet to run at Moonee Valley.

It’s not a track you want to see for the first time at this level, so we’re prepared to risk him at the odds.

5. The Astrologist ($14) Bet @ Neds

The son of Zoustar is a four-time winner at the distance, but we think he’ll run at Mornington on Saturday instead.

A chance no matter where he lines up, but we’re not sure if he’s Group 1 material.

6. Halvorsen ($71) Bet @ Neds

He won two back at Flemington before struggling last time out, but he was in the wrong part of the track.

Won his only start at Moonee Valley but the odds suggest he won’t be winning on Friday.

7. Standout ($27) Bet @ Neds

He doesn’t win all that often now and that’s a concern. His effort for third at Randwick was solid, but he’s another runner yet to see this track.

8. September Run ($19) Bet @ Neds

She produced a much better effort for third in the Newmarket and that could give her confidence to produce an overdue win.

She has yet to perform her best at The Valley, but if they go quickly up front, she’s good enough to storm over the top of them late.

9. Marabi (Best Bet – $1.70) Bet @ Neds

$1.70 is short for a runner with only seven runs to her name, but she has won all seven and in impressive fashion.

She has won all three starts at The Valley and she got the better of Away Game in the Oakleigh Plate.

There is more depth here, but she’s the one they have to beat.

10. Electric Girl ($91) Bet @ Neds

Nothing wrong with her recent form but it’s not Group 1 level. She should struggle as the odds suggest.

11. General Beau (Best Roughie – $26) Bet @ Neds

Money is coming for General Beau and we think it’s well-placed. He was only a half-length behind the winner last start and he’s better with the fitness.

He’s a big and bold type, so he put himself in the race and battle on strongly.

12. Generation (Best Each Way – $15) Bet @ Neds

Generation gets the run of the race from barrier two and he’s a fighting colt. He opened at $23 and has been well-backed to win, so that’s a good sign.

With race fitness on his side, we expect Generation to be fighting out the placings.

13. Marine One ($26) Bet @ Neds

Marine One needs luck from the draw but we’re not prepared to leave him out of calculations.

He is a four-time winner from 10 starts and he showed toughness when holding off Oxley Road last time out.

Take the $26 on an each-way basis.

14. Zouzarella ($41) Bet @ Neds

Zouzarella is unbeaten in two starts at The Valley and getting back to this track could see her form improve.

Her recent runs haven’t been as bad as they have looked, so she could be the forgotten runner.

15. Snapper ($35) Bet @ Neds

The former Kiwi is running well but he might be a touch below Group 1 form.
