Flemington horse racing tips & form

Race 1. (13:00) William Newton VC Handicap (2600m)

#2 – Rousseau @ $2.15 – Bet @ PlayUp

Rousseau is shooting for three consecutive wins after scoring at Rosehill and Mornington, so he’s in form.

The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old has experience at Flemington when running second behind Crystal Pegasus and that form has stacked up.

He looks like an excellent bet in the opening race.

Race 2. (13:35) Auckland Thoroughbred BM78 (1100m)

#12 – I Am Me @ $1.95 – Bet @ PlayUp

I Am Me comes off back-to-back wins and she was scratched from a harder race on Saturday.

The Maher/Eustace-trained daughter of I Am Invincible scored by 4.3 lengths at Ballarat last start and anything close to that form is good enough.

Jamie Kah rides with 54kg on her back, so we’re not surprised by the odds.

Race 3. (14:10) Anzac Day Stakes (1400m)

#1 – Tijuana @ $4.50 – Bet @ PlayUp

Tijuana showed professionalism when winning on debut at Pakenham and he could rise through the grades.

The two-year-old son of American Pharoah showed good tactical pace and kicked away for a strong victory, so he’s a nice type in the making.

Punters get each-way odds worth taking.

Race 4. (14:45) Vera Deakin Handicap (1400m)

#8 – Tarzi Calling @ $4.80 – Bet @ PlayUp

Tarzi Calling was too good for them at Benalla last start and he’s good enough to make the rise in class.

He won by 2.3 lengths and the son of Tarzino showed good early speed, which is always vital in these races.

It’s another good ride for Kah, who could have a big day.

Race 5. (15:20) The Les Carlyon Handicap (1700m)

#1 – Cherry Tortoni @ $2.90 – Bet @ PlayUp

Cherry Tortoni has the class edge over this field and he showed his class when winning at Bendigo last start.

The four-year-old son of Night of Thunder flashed late to beat a quality field and he’s not going to find this race any harder.

His odds will shorten on race day, so take the $2.90 available.

Race 6. (15:55) Peter Armytage Handicap (1200m)

#4 – Squid Game @ $3.50 – Bet @ PlayUp

Squid Game scored consecutive wins to open his career before finishing third at Flemington behind Clemenceau.

The three-year-old won at Flemington two starts back, so he has form on the track and he comes off a Kilmore jumpout victory.

Punters should be happy with the odds.

Race 7. (16:30) VRC St. Leger (2800m)

#1 – Alegron @ $1.80 – Bet @ PlayUp

Alegron finished third in the ATC Derby last start and that form is exceptional for the St. Leger.

The James Cummings-trained three-year-old has only one placing from five attempts at Flemington, but he’s a much-improved type.

The distance isn’t a problem and the odds-on price isn’t a shock. He has the class edge and could put lengths on this field.

Race 8. (17:05) Ian Bayles DFC BM78 (1200m)

#11 – Jucconi @ $4.20 – Bet @ PlayUp

The McEvoy-trained gelding owns three wins and a second placing from four starts, so he hasn’t done anything wrong.

Jucconi scored a 1.3-length win at Moonee Valley last start and his odds have firmed since markets opened, which isn’t surprising.

He has upside and the McEvoy polish, so punters should be expecting another fine effort and for his odds to firm on race day.
