Geelong horse racing tips & form

Race 1. (13:00) Bet365 Odds Protector Maiden (1200m)

#17 – Liberty Steps @ $6.50 – Bet @ PlayUp

Liberty Steps has had the benefit of a race day start when finishing third at Sandown in a tough open-class race.

The two-year-old colt by Sidestep was only 2.6 lengths behind the winner and it followed a trial win, so he’s running well.

Punters get generous odds in the opening race and they’re worth snapping up.

Race 2. (13:35) Furphy Maiden Plate (1100m)

#5 – Shines @ $1.80 – Bet @ PlayUp

There has been a stack of money for Shines, who looked good when winning a jumpout at Flemington.

The three-year-old gelding by Dream Ahead showed good barrier pace to lead the jumpout and that’s a good quality to have.

$1.80 is short but he looks above average.

Race 3. (14:10) Apco Service Stations Maiden (1400m)

#1 – Dun Warrior @ $1.60 – Bet @ PlayUp

Punters get another short-priced favourite with Dun Warrior, who could make amends for an unlucky debut run.

The well-bred son of Dundeel paid $3.30 when running third on debut at Sandown, but he was badly held up and he should have won.

Drawing barrier four with Jamie Kah riding could see his fortunes change.

Race 4. (14:45) Bellarine Peninsula Thoroughbred Maiden (1500m)

#4 – Vale Street @ $6.50 – Bet @ PlayUp

Vale Street has had the benefit of three race day starts, including a second placing at Pakenham two back.

The four-year-old followed it up with a fourth at Pakenham and he doesn’t meet an overly tough maiden field here, so that’s in his favour.

Punters get each-way odds, so he’s worth the risk.

Race 5. (15:20) Ultima Hotel C1 Handicap (1500m)

#1 – Angel @ $2.70 – Bet @ PlayUp

Angel is a former French runner who won over 1800m to break maidens before struggling in two subsequent runs.

Despite finishing 30.3 lengths behind the winner last start, the four-year-old son of Fastnet Rock won a jumpout by a big margin at Flemington.

It’s a promising sign and we’re not surprised by the betting support.

Race 6. (15:55) Geelong Homes BM64 (1100m)

#7 – Romany Rocks @ $3.60 – Bet @ PlayUp

Romany Rocks didn’t fire at Flemington behind Espiona last start, but the spell would have done her the world of good.

The Wilde-trained filly looked good when winning at Ballarat by two lengths and anything close to that form would be good enough.

It’s a competitive midweek field, so watch for any late betting movement.

Race 7. (16:30) Taxi Network Geelong BM64 (1300m)

#5 – Smiling Amos @ $4 – Bet @ PlayUp

The Maher/Eustace-trained gelding won on debut at Geelong by a half-length and we like his chances of staying unbeaten.

He paid $1.90 to get the job done, so punters are getting value at $4 and we expect his odds to firm on race day.

Drawing barrier four is ideal and he’s good enough to handle the rise in class.

Race 8. (17:05) Times News Group BM64 (2400m)

#8 – Paris Pike @ $6 – Bet @ PlayUp

We don’t always see the best from Paris Pike, but the five-year-old has upside against this level of opposition.

The son of Uncle Mo finished third at Pakenham two back before running only 2.5 lengths behind the winner at Mornington.

Rising to 2400m shouldn’t hold any fears and punters get value odds.
