Race 1. (18:15) Alinta Energy Maiden (1200m)
#1 – Elite Icon @ $2.05 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Elite Icon had strong betting support at $2.10 on debut, and although he finished second, it was a strong effort.
The three-year-old son of Nicconi looked to have the race won, but he should only improve with the experience under his belt.
Punters get a similar price and it’s worth taking.
Race 2. (18:45) Affordable Energy C1 Handicap (1600m)
#1 – Captain Corelli @ $3.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Captain Corelli could make a winning return and punters get each-way odds to enjoy.
The four-year-old son of Tavistock finished fourth behind Cherry Tortoni last time out, which is Group 1 form.
He has class on its side and his recent jumpout was impressive.
Race 3. (19:15) Local Service BM70 (2040m)
#1 – Nerve Not Verve @ $4.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Never Not Verve is getting close to a win after two placings and they came against tough types.
The six-year-old mare by Shocking finished second behind Daqiansweet Junior at Caulfield before running second at Flemington.
It’s a good form guide and this distance looks ideal.
Race 4. (19:45) Alinta Energy Better BM64 (955m)
#9 – Royal Dress @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Royal Dress lived up to the hype when winning on debut at Morphettville and she is being brought into town.
The three-year-old filly by I Am Invincible scored by 1.3 lengths against a subsequent winner before being spelled.
Barrier two is ideal and we like her chances.
Race 5. (20:15) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge BM64 (955m)
#6 – Destiny Diamond @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Destiny Diamond shoots for three consecutive wins after scoring at Geelong by a nose last time out.
The Symon Wilde-trained three-year-old owns three wins from five starts overall and running around The Valley should be ideal.
Punters should snap up the each-way value.
Race 6. (20:45) Reliable Energy BM64 (2500m)
#5 – Teofilo Star @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained son of Teofilo has made a good start to his career and we think it can continue on Friday.
He comes off a win at Geelong over 2200m, so the longer distance shouldn’t be a problem. It came by 3.3 lengths as a $1.35 chance, so the $4 is generous.
We expect plenty of money to come for him on race night.
Race 7. (21:15) Sustainable Energy BM64 (2040m)
#11 – Raccolto @ $5.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Team Hawkes lines up the four-year-old mare who went close at Pakenham last time out.
The daughter of Pierro likes to get back in her races, which means she won’t need to push forward from the wide draw.
Jye McNeil rides and we expect her to finish close with some luck in running.
Race 8. (21:45) Alinta Lunar New Year BM64 (1200m)
#5 – Seguso @ $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Seguso won fresh up at Geelong before finishing second at Caulfield by a nose, so he’s running well.
The Graeme Begg-trained four-year-old owns two wins and three placings from six starts, so we love his consistency.
His opening odds of $3 have been taken and he’s a past winner at The Valley, which bodes well.
