We have expert betting tips for the 2022 Open Championship, which is played at St. Andrews this week.
It’s the final major of the year as the world’s best players embark on the Old Course in Scotland, which should excite old and new golf fans.
Rory McIlroy is the current favourite and there are value odds available with every player in the field.
We look at the best picks for the 2022 Open Championship.

2022 Open Championship Best Bet – Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele is the hottest golfer on the planet after winning his last two tournaments and we’re sticking with the American.
He won the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour before teeing it up at the Scottish Open and hanging on to win by one stroke last week.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner had been threatening to win a big tournament and he got it done last week, so we expect his confidence levels to be sky high heading into the Open Championship at St. Andrews.
He has been the steady firmer in betting markets all week. His opening odds were around $24 and after winning in Scotland, he firmed to $15, which is still a respectable price for the quality golfer.
We’re putting him on top in what is a tough field to beat.
Bet: Xander Schauffele @ $15 Bet @ Ladbrokes
2022 Open Championship Best Value – Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa hasn’t been playing his best golf this year but the quality American is the defending champion and that demands respect.
He comes off a missed cut at the Scottish Open, but he finished T5 at the U.S. Open and conditions at St. Andrews shouldn’t be too different.
The 25-year-old is still improving and his experience of winning this tournament last year holds him in good stead against players who have never won the Open Championship.
Punters get $29 for Morikawa to win and that’s a mighty fine price.
Bet: Collin Morikawa @ $29 Bet @ Ladbrokes
2022 Open Championship Long Shot – Sam Burns
We are surprised with the odds for Sam Burns, who has been one of the most consistent golfers on the Tour this year.
The 25-year-old is already a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, including the Valspar Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge in 2022.
He has played in only one Open Championship, which was a T76 performance last year, but his golf game has matured significantly and we didn’t mind how he played in Scotland last week.
The T66 finish was disappointing to some but he needed the hit-out and he should be primed and ready to fire this week.
The $41 available with bookmakers is an excellent price for the quality American.
Bet: Sam Burns @ $41 Bet @ Ladbrokes
Open Championship Leader After Round 1 – Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy is the tournament favourite but we like his chances of leading after the first round.
He has been getting off to fast starts in most tournaments that he plays but he has been unable to play well on the weekend.
Given his experience on the course and his desire to win his first major since 2014, the Northern Irishman could start fast and lead the pack on Thursday night.
Punters get $17 for McIlroy and he’s worth a wager.
Bet: Rory McIlroy @ $17 Bet @ Ladbrokes
2022 Open Championship Top Australian – Cam Smith
We love betting on Cam Smith in the major golf tournaments and he has treated punters well over the last couple of years.
He has already shown up on the big stage this season and there’s no reason to jump off his back for the Open Championship.
Smith is the current $2.88 to beat the likes of Adam Scott, Lucas Herbert and Marc Leishman, so he doesn’t have many form players to beat.
Bet: Cam Smith @ $2.88 Bet @ Ladbrokes
