Randwick horse racing tips
Race 1. (11:30) Tab Highway Handicap (1200m)
#14 – Sparring @ $6.50 – Bet @ Neds
Sparring was a winner on debut at Albury by 6.5 lengths before running second at Sandown two back.
His most recent performance wasn’t ideal, but getting on rain-affected tracks in Sydney should help and punters get value odds in the opener.
James McDonald rides and that helps from barrier 18.
Race 2. (12:05) Midway BM72 (1400m)
#12 – Ashim @ $13 – Bet @ Neds
Ashim improved to run third at Canterbury last start and we can see him progressing enough to win.
The Matthew Smith-trained five-year-old is only a two-time winner from 16 starts, but he handles the wet tracks and this should be right up his alley.
Punters get odds worth taking in the Midway.
Race 3. (12:40) Acy Security Frank Packer Plate (2000m)
#4 – Straight Arron @ $2 – Bet @ Neds
Straight Arron owns two wins from three starts, including a 2.8-length win at Randwick last time out.
The well-bred son of Fastnet Rock has been heavily backed throughout his career and Saturday is no different for the $2 chance.
It’s another good for McDonald, who could have a big day.
Race 5. (13:50) Mostyn Copper J B Carr Stakes (1400m)
#2 – Espiona @ $1.75 – Bet @ Neds
The bubble burst with Espiona, but she’s still a talented filly and she’ll find this much easier than recent assignments.
Chris Waller lines up the daughter of Extreme Choice, who owns two wins and two placings from five starts, so we’re sticking with her.
Punters will have to take short odds, but she’s worth including in options.
Race 6. (14:25) Tab Hall Mark Stakes (1200m)
#7 – Quantico @ $11 – Bet @ Neds
Quantico needed the fresh up run and we can’t turn down the double-figure odds.
The John O’Shea-trained five-year-old is a two-time winner second-up and his recent trial at Randwick was a good sign.
He’s a four-time winner at the distance and we’re prepared to take the risk and go against the odds-on favourite.
Race 7. (15:10) Sharp Extensive JRA Plate (2000m)
#1 – Icebath @ $4 – Bet @ Neds
Icebath comes off a third placing behind Nimalee in the Queen of the Turf and she’s overdue a winning turn.
The Brad Widdup-trained five-year-old runs some of her best races at Randwick and she runs well on rain-affected tracks.
After opening at $4.80, her odds have firmed to $4 and we expect more money to come for her on race day.
Race 9. (16:30) Silverdale Farm BM100 (1400m)
#7 – Exoboom @ $8 – Bet @ Neds
Exoboom comes off a second placing at Newcastle behind Gem Song and we expect that form to stack up nicely.
The four-year-old son of Exopshere often goes underrated and he won his only start in heavy conditions, which is a good sign.
Drawing wide in the wet isn’t a big deal and the odds are worth snapping up.
Race 10. (17:05) Catanach’s BM88 (1200m)
#6 – Maotai @ $4 – Bet @ Neds
Maotai wasn’t far behind Gem Song and Exoboom last time out, so the form from Race 9 could be a good guide.
He showed plenty of ability when winning fresh up at Randwick and getting back to this surface could switch him on.
The each-way odds are generous and too good to pass up.
