Thursday Horse Racing Tips – August 18th, 2022

We have expert betting tips for the cards this Thursday at Hawkesbury and Echuca.

There is plenty of value available with bookmakers at the Thursday horse racing meetings and we have our best bets across the cards.

Tried our top rated bookmakers?

Hawkesbury

Race 2. (13:15) Lander Toyota C1 Handicap (1100m)

#1 – The Poacher @ $2.70 – Bet @ Bet365

The Poacher was too good for them at Goulburn last start and he has been primed with three trial efforts.

He is a son of No Nay Never who looks to have a bright future at the provincials and there has been good betting support.

Barrier two is ideal and we’re happy with the $2.70.

Race 4. (14:25) XXXX Gold Prov & Country Maiden (1300m)

#5 – Extreme Freedom @ $2.70 – Bet @ Bet365

Extreme Freedom comes off a second placing at Hawkesbury on debut and we like his chances of going one better.

The son of Turn Me Loose looks to have plenty of scope and he should appreciate being on firmer ground on Thursday.

Having James McDonald in the saddle is a bonus.

Race 5. (15:05) Club Mount Lewis Maiden (1100m)

#10 – Magic @ $2.50 – Bet @ Bet365

Magic showed ability during his first preparation, including two placings at Rosehill behind the likes of Best of Bordeaux and Rises of the Masses.

He didn’t fire at his most recent run and also in a recent trial, but he should have the class edge in maiden company.

It could pay to watch late betting moves with Magic.

Race 7. (16:15) Pioneer Services Rowley Mile (1600m)

#2 – Cross Talk @ $1.80 – Bet @ Bet365

We think the feature race goes to Cross Talk, who has been excellent since arriving in Australia from New Zealand.

The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding owns five wins from seven starts and he deserves to be the $1.80 favourite.

Tim Clark is likely to send him forward and he will be tough to chase down.

Echuca

Race 1. (13:00) Edge Space Maiden (1100m)

#11 – Tanto @ $4.50 – Bet @ Bet365

Tanto has had the benefit of race experience and that counts for plenty against a field of this nature.

The Matthew Ellerton-trained filly owns four placings from six starts and it’s only a matter of time before she exits maiden grades.

Barrier four is ideal and punters get each-way odds to enjoy.

Race 3. (14:00) Hygain Maiden (1400m)

#12 – Duvach @ $2.10 – Bet @ Bet365

Duvach has been heavily backed on debut after showing speed when winning a trial at Cranbourne.

The well-bred sister of Pasadena Girl has attracted plenty of attention with bookmakers and the $2.10 could firm to around $1.80 on race day.

She’s in good hands and we’re keen on her chances.

Race 6. (15:30) The Caledonian BM64 (1000m)

#4 – El Salto @ $3.40 – Bet @ Bet365

El Salto doesn’t win often but the five-year-old gelding is good enough to win against this company.

The five-year-old is unbeaten in two starts at Echuca and we’re not surprised by the shortening odds for the course specialist.

We’re prepared to back him one more time.

Race 8. (16:30) Moama Bowling Club R64 Handicap (1400m)

#3 – Mr News @ $2.30 – Bet @ Bet365

Mr News scored by 1.8 lengths on debut against some smart types, so he looks to have a bright future.

The Nick Ryan-trained four-year-old handled the wet track well, so the heavy conditions shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Bookmakers have the favourite at short odds and that’s not surprising.
