Race 2. (18:15) Brian McPhee Maiden (1200m)
#9 – Suparazi @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The three-year-old gelding didn’t do much wrong when finishing second on debut at Moonee Valley and it came behind a speedy type.
He was no match for Elite Icon, but he should find this field more to his liking and the early betting signs are encouraging.
We expect him to be winning shortly.
Race 3. (18:45) Steven Heanes C1 Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Madame Du Gast @ $2.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Madame Du Gast was a winner on debut at Flemington when beating subsequent winner Elite Icon, so the form checks out.
She didn’t fire at Caulfield last time out, but it was still a solid effort behind some smart types, so this is much easier.
We expect plenty of money to come her way.
Race 5. (19:45) Tara Brown on Sportsbet Maiden (1400m)
#12 – Tauty @ $4.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Tauty comes off three consecutive placings, including a second placing at Ballarat behind Heavy Duty.
The Greg Eurell-trained three-year-old should have won a race by now, but if she finds cover from the draw, she should be tough to beat.
Punters get fair each-way odds for the risk.
Race 7. (20:45) Sportsbet Bet with Mates Maiden (1600m)
#6 – True Grit @ $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
True Grit is looking to cap off consecutive placings with a win and he has the breeding to become a nice type.
The three-year-old gelding finished second behind Set the Sails last week, so being on the one-week back-up is an ideal situation.
We think the $2.40 is a fair price to take against this level of opposition.
Race 1. (13:15) Horsepower C1 Plate (2300m)
#1 – Aquileon @ $2.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The Kris Lees-trained five-year-old owns one win from 11 starts, but he owns eight placings.
He is always around the mark and there has been a stack of money come for him in early betting markets. His opening price of $3 was taken quickly and the odds could continue to shorten.
Having Hugh Bowman in the saddle doesn’t hurt his chances.
Race 3. (14:25) Kloster Motor Group Maiden (1300m)
#6 – Williamsburg @ $3.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Williamsburg did well to run second behind Robusto on debut at Warwick Farm and we like his chances on Thursday.
The two-year-old son of Snitzel should find this level of racing more to his liking and there has been good early betting encouragement.
He opened at $4 and has firmed to $3.60, so it could pay to follow the betting moves.
Race 4. (15:05) Coastline Pools & Spas Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Latin Lyric @ $2.70 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Latin Lyric hit the line with serious power last time out and that run holds her in good stead.
The four-year-old mare has yet to win from 17 starts, but she has seven placings and her recent form is a good indication of her talent.
Stick with her for one more run.
Race 7. (16:50) Polytrack Qualifier C5 (1400m)
#4 – Noble Soldier @ $26 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Punters get value odds for Noble Solider, who did well to finish fourth fresh up at Rosehill.
The four-year-old wasn’t far behind More Sundays last start and the four-time winner should enjoy running at Newcastle.
Getting $26 is a steal and he should give value punters a good sight.
